TeleCommunication Systems and Cassidian Communications Announce Agreement to Integrate Technologies in Support of the NENA i3 Specifications

Note: Comtech Acquired TCS on 2/23/2016

MINNEAPOLIS, MN, Jun 21, 2011 -- TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a world leader in highly reliable and secure mobile communication technology, and public safety technology market leader Cassidian Communications, an EADS North America company, today announced the public safety industry's first collaborative agreement to provide comprehensive end-to-end ESInet solutions based on the NENA i3 Standard. This solution portfolio will be available nationwide. The landmark NENA i3 Standard, formally approved by the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) on June 16, provides key technical guidelines for the implementation of next-generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) systems referred to as the Emergency Services IP Network or ESInet.

TCS and Cassidian Communications will provide open architecture, flexible and feature-rich ESInet solutions that meet the needs of state, regional and local public safety jurisdictions. The fully i3 compliant solution portfolio will include everything from NG9-1-1 network functionality and network services (such as routing), to computer telephony integrated, multimedia capable processing platforms (applications & equipment), GIS applications and services, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Management Information Systems (MIS) and analytics, Emergency Notification Solutions and P25 Land Mobile Radio. In addition, vitally important in an i3 environment, the solution portfolio will also include Managed Services such as monitoring and response, patch management, virus protection and disaster recovery, as well as professional training services. Flexible solution design will allow customers to choose from a number of deployment models including local deployment, regional/state deployment, hosted solutions and/or various hybrid deployment models designed to meet unique customer needs.

"The NENA i3 Standard clearly defines the NG9-1-1 environment. Our new flexible and cost effective ESInet Solution portfolio will provide significant improvements for decades to come without the need for transitional protocols," said Chris Nabinger, senior vice president of safety and security at TCS. "We are pleased to deliver this solution with a world class supplier, Cassidian Communications."

"We are pleased to work with TCS. Cassidian Communications has been leading the approval and widespread adoption of the NENA i3 Standard and is now focused on delivering i3 compliant applications and services for use in PSAPs nationwide," said Jeff Wittek, vice president of business development at Cassidian Communications. "Now that the i3 Standard is approved and the direction of NG9-1-1 has been established, we are pleased to cooperatively offer innovative and fully interoperable applications and services with TCS, the ESInet industry leader."

TCS and Cassidian Communications have been vocal proponents of NENA and the i3 Standard which, as opposed to transitional protocols, defines the multimedia end-state architecture for NG9-1-1 systems. Public Safety organizations and their constituents stand to greatly benefit by this new offering, which provides superior functionality, greater flexibility and higher levels of service at a lower total cost of ownership.
