Comtech Telecommunications Receives Contract For Satellite Equipment For Latin American Project
  • Total Value Expected to Exceed $1.2 Million
  • Covers Equipment for Country-wide Air Traffic Control System
MELVILLE, NY, September 11, 2001-- Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq: CMTL) announced today that it has received a contract from a leading European corporation to provide equipment for use in the country-wide satellite air traffic control system of a major Latin American country.

The contract has an initial value of $750,000, but additional requirements that have already been identified are expected to increase its eventual total value to more than $1.2 million. It was awarded to the company's Florida-based Comtech Systems subsidiary and involves satellite equipment produced by the Comtech EF Data subsidiary in Arizona.

Equipment to be supplied under the contract includes Comtech's field-proven CSAT-5060 satellite transceivers and CSWT 2500 redundancy switches. This equipment integrated into the air traffic control system will enable the user country to greatly improve its aeronautical control and coverage.

Fred Kornberg, chairman and chief executive officer of Comtech Telecommunications, said the company's equipment was chosen for the satellite project because of its worldwide reputation for high performance and reliability. Comtech's ability to meet tight deadlines was another important factor, he said. The equipment covered by the new contract will be delivered within 90 days.

"Our success in winning this important contract is fresh evidence of the value of Comtech EF Data's ability to provide customers with a one-stop shopping source of satellite ground station products," Mr. Kornberg said. "It's also gratifying to win a contract for an application in which reliability and performance are such important requirements. This shows once again that we really have achieved leadership in key markets. This newest win also shows once again the value of the synergistic relationship between our satellite equipment and systems divisions."
