Comtech Telecommunications Corp. Wins $1.7 Million in Equipment Orders to Support Satellite-Based Cellular Backhaul

MELVILLE, N.Y., Mar 5, 2009 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX News Network) -- Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq:CMTL) announced today that its Tempe, Arizona-based subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp., won $1.7 million in equipment orders from a service provider who will utilize the equipment to support satellite-based cellular backhaul network expansions in South America.

Both the CDM-625 and CDM-600L Satellite Modems were specified in the orders. Comtech EF Data's latest modem, the CDM-625 Advanced Satellite Modem, combines the revolutionary DoubleTalk® Carrier-in-Carrier® bandwidth compression with Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) codes for maximum bandwidth efficiencies. Service providers worldwide have adopted the CDM-625 to facilitate network expansions and upgrades in regions where satellite capacity is constrained. Also featuring LDPC, the CDM-600L Satellite Modem supports data rates up to 20 Mbps, and is commonly deployed in cellular backhaul applications.

Also included in the orders were the High Power Outdoor Amplifiers (HPOD) and the MBT-4000B Multi-Band Transceivers. It features field replaceable power supplies, redundant system control, low loss combining technique and MCP-based temperature. The MBT-4000 is a unique, outdoor multi-band RF transceiver. It performs C-, X- or Ku-Band to L-Band down conversion and L-Band to C-, X-, or Ku-Band up conversion.

Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp. commented on the order, "The advanced technologies and bandwidth efficiencies in our products will enable this systems integrator to expand coverage even where satellite capacity may be limited."
