Comtech Telecommunications Corp. Wins $1.1 Million Equipment Order to Support Satellite-Based Cellular Backhaul
MELVILLE, N.Y., Oct 14, 2008 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX News Network) -- Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq:CMTL) announced today that its Tempe, Arizona-based subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp., won a $1.1 million equipment order to support a satellite communications-based cellular backhaul network. A major GSM operator will utilize the equipment to upgrade an existing network in the West Africa region.
The order specified the CDM-QxL Multi-Channel Satellite Modems with DoubleTalk® Carrier-in-Carrier®. Ideal for supporting cellular backhaul applications, Carrier-in-Carrier is based on Applied Signal Technology's DoubleTalk bandwidth compression technology. DoubleTalk uses "Adaptive Cancellation," a patented technology that allows the transmit and receive carriers of a full-duplex satellite link to be transmitted in the same transponder space. When combined with advanced forward error correction and modulation techniques, DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier can deliver unprecedented operating expense savings. In addition, DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier can provide capital expenditure savings by allowing a smaller BUC/HPA and/or antenna.
"Our revolutionary and award-winning DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier is a proven technology," said Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp. "Globally accepted, DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier is installed by the major operators and service providers, governments and enterprises."
