Comtech Telecommunications Corp. Subsidiary Signs Sword & Shield Enterprise Security, Inc., $31.0 Million Purchase Agreement for Next-Generation Troposcatter Antennas

MELVILLE, N.Y., May 17, 2010 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX News Network) -- Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq:CMTL) announced today that its Orlando, Florida-based subsidiary, Comtech Systems, Inc., received a Blanket Purchase Agreement from Sword & Shield Enterprise Security, Inc. for $31.0 million for up to 152 of its next-generation, CSA3000 Transportable Fast Link Antennas (TFLAs), to replace all AN/TRC-170 legacy troposcatter antennas for the U.S. Marine Corps. The contract also includes spare parts and worldwide onsite training. Orders against this purchase agreement can be received over a thirty-six month period. The first call on this contract is for approximately $2.1 million.

The Marine Corps chose to fairly compete this procurement through NASA Solutions for Enterprise-Wide Procurement (SEWP IV) contract, a Government-Wide Acquisition Contract (GWAC) available for use by all federal agencies. Sword & Shield Enterprise Security, Inc., a SEWP IV prime contract holder, is a veteran-owned small business with Comtech products on contract available for purchase.

"We are privileged to work with Comtech and the Marine Corps to facilitate the procurement of this technology to better equip our military," said Will Henderson, Executive Vice President of Sword & Shield.

Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp., said, "This award is a testament to our industry-leading and field-proven troposcatter system technology. We are a proven strategic vendor that meets the U.S. Marine Corps' requirement for troposcatter communications which has become a prominent communications medium in Iraq and Afghanistan. We are well-positioned to address future demand for troposcatter systems and subsystems."

Comtech Systems' CSA3000 TFLA is a rapidly deployable troposcatter antenna that can be set up by only two people without any special tools and be operational in 30 minutes. The TFLA operates in the 4.4-5.0 GHz band and is compatible with the AN/TRC-170A (V)2/(V)3/(V)5 and a wide range of other troposcatter communications terminals. The TFLA consists of a three meter carbon fiber reflector mounted on a high-strength aluminum trailer, which provides the optimum balance between lightweight design and ruggedness.

Key features of the TFLA include an automated antenna pointing subsystem, four-port angle diversity feed subsystem and an optional self-contained electrical power subsystem. With this innovative four-port angle diversity feed subsystem, the TFLA can support either dual or quad diversity operation with only one reflector rather than two. As a result, rapid deployment and solid link performance can be obtained at a significantly lower life cycle cost than traditional systems that rely on separate antennas for space diversity.
