Comtech Telecommunications Corp. Receives $9.1 Million Order to Upgrade Cellular Backhaul Infrastructure
MELVILLE, N.Y., Jun 11, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq: CMTL), a leading provider of products, systems and services for advanced communications solutions, today announced that its Montreal, Canada-based operation, Memotec, Inc., received a $9.1 million order to provide communications equipment and services to a major 2G/3G mobile telecommunications service provider in Africa. The equipment will be used to increase the existing link capacity of the mobile operator's access and core transmission network, connecting media gateways and base station equipment. The Memotec solution will reduce the operating expenses through increased bandwidth efficiencies for the service provider, while offering a more cost-effective alternative for expanding capacity compared to traditional upgrade solutions.
The equipment consists of Memotec's next generation mobile voice and data compression product, the CX-U 1000. The CX-U 1000 uniquely combines GSM/CDMA mobile network access optimization and DCME voice compression features together into a single, compact, carrier-grade unit. Featuring hot-standby redundancy with zero service down time, sophisticated monitoring functions, and the highest traffic compression ratio in the industry, the CX-U1000 delivers the level of carrier-grade features mobile operators require.
"This order confirms Comtech's leadership position in the cellular backhaul compression market and demonstrates customer confidence in our ability to service and deliver carrier-grade, world-class infrastructure solutions to leading mobile operators," said Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp.
