Comtech Telecommunications Corp. Receives $5.3 Million in Contract Awards for the Deployment of Satellite Communication Technologies to the Asia Pacific Region

MELVILLE, N.Y., Apr 19, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (NASDAQ: CMTL) announced today that its Tempe, Arizona-based subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp., and its Fremont, California-based subsidiary, Comtech Vipersat Networks, Inc., received two contract awards for the deployment of satellite communication technologies to the Asia Pacific Region. The combined awards total $5.3 million.

Comtech will deploy its industry leading capacity and bandwidth management software, the Vipersat Management System (VMS), as well as its high performance CDM-570/L, CDM-600 and CDM-600/L Satellite Modems. The equipment will be used to provide mission-critical air traffic control operations with a robust, fully redundant satellite-based system and to enhance and expand GSM cellular phone system infrastructure throughout the region.

VMS allows inbound transmissions from remotes to be switched from a shared Selective Time Division Multiple Access (STDMA) mode to a dedicated Single Carrier Per Channel (SCPC) connection, manually or automatically, triggered by application or load, or on a scheduled basis. This enables the network to more effectively handle connection-oriented applications and reduces both latency and network congestion. Through VMS, dynamic point-to-point mesh connections can be established between remotes. The result is an economical and flexible network, enabling bandwidth to be shared and directed where it is needed for any mix of IP voice, video, or data traffic.

The robust CDM-600 and CDM-600/L Satellite Modems ensure optimum performance in a variety of networks, support data rates up to 20 Mbps, and offer an array of modulation techniques, standards and interfaces, plus Turbo Product Coding (TPC). Utilizing TPC with the Satellite Modems offers customers increased coding gain, lower decoding delay and significant bandwidth savings. The CDM-570/L Satellite Modem optimizes satellite communications with data rates from 2.4 Kbps to 5 Mbps, fast acquisition, second generation Turbo Product Coding and a variety of modulation techniques.

"These contract awards highlight Comtech's ability to deliver solutions globally," said Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp. "We are pleased to assist in the connectivity of the Asia Pacific region via our advanced satellite communication technologies."
