Comtech Telecommunications Corp. Receives $1.3 Million Order for Satellite Communications Equipment

MELVILLE, N.Y., Oct 18, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (NASDAQ: CMTL) announced today that its Tempe, Arizona-based subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp., received a $1.3 million order from a leading communications integrator. The order was for turboIP(R) Performance Enhancement Proxies.

Comtech EF Data's turboIP performance enhancement proxy combats the inherent challenges of transmitting internet transmission control protocol (TCP) over satellite links. Typical satellite links exhibit high latency and bit error rates which can be challenging for the transmission of TCP. Comtech's equipment provides transparent acceleration of TCP sessions over satellite links while requiring minimal topology changes. Being standards-based and supporting the Space Communications Protocol Standard Transport Protocol, turboIP provides reliable connection-oriented, end-to-end data transfer for user applications. The turboIP units will be deployed in both hub and remote government installations.

"This order is another example of Comtech's ability to deliver solutions that maximize bandwidth and optimize satellite communications," said Fred Kornberg, president and chief executive officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp.

Comtech EF Data Corp. manufactures a broad spectrum of satellite communications products, including Satellite Modems, TCP/IP Performance Enhancement Proxies, Converters, Amplifiers, Transceivers and Terminals. All products meet or exceed the standards published by Intelsat(R), Eutelsat, Insat, AsiaSat and other worldwide and regional satellite networks.
