Comtech Telecommunications Corp. Receives $1.1 Million Satellite Communications Equipment Order to Support a Cellular Backhaul Network in Asia

MELVILLE, N.Y., Apr 24, 2008 (PrimeNewswire via COMTEX News Network) -- Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq:CMTL) announced today that its Tempe, Arizona-based subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp., has received a $1.1 million satellite communications equipment order from Satcom Resources. The equipment will support the build-out of a new cellular backhaul network in Asia.

The order includes the CDM-QxL Satellite Modem with DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier and the Quad E1 interface. Carrier-in-Carrier® is based on Applied Signal Technology's DoubleTalk® bandwidth compression technology. DoubleTalk uses "Adaptive Cancellation," a patented technology that allows the transmit and receive carriers of a full-duplex satellite link to be transmitted in the same transponder space. The Quad E1 interface aggregates up to four synchronous full or fractional E1s into a single carrier.

"DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier has a proven track record of saving transponder bandwidth and/or transponder power," said Fred Pope, president of Satcom Resources. "We selected Comtech's solution for this cellular operator based on its ability to provide unprecedented operating expense savings."

Comtech EF Data's satellite communication products are installed around the globe. The advanced technologies facilitate bandwidth efficiencies and link optimization for commercial and government customers.

"The combination of DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier and the Quad E1 interface will enable this operator to realize unparalleled operating and capital expenditure savings," said Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp.
