Comtech Telecommunications Corp. Joins WiMAX Forum

MELVILLE, N.Y., Jul 29, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq: CMTL), a leading provider of products, systems and services for advanced communications solutions, announced that its Pullman, Washington-based subsidiary, Comtech AHA Corporation, has become a member of the WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) Forum. WiMAX is an industry group of leading broadband wireless system vendors whose objective is to accelerate the marketplace introduction of wireless broadband equipment that adheres to the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.16 technical standard.

Comtech AHA Corporation designs, develops and markets forward error correction integrated circuits and data coding technology solutions for telecommunications systems customers. Among its leading products is the latest generation forward error correction technology, called Turbo Product Codec (TPC). The use of TPCs in wireless broadband can reduce power requirements and allow for greater transmission distances than can be supported by most other error correction methods.

"Today we are excited to be joining the team responsible for WiMAX certification," said Fred Kornberg, president and CEO of Comtech Telecommunications Corp. "Our TPC advanced integrated circuits are compliant with the IEEE's 802.16a optional forward error correction mode and membership in WiMAX is a key step as we continue to identify additional potential markets, including wireless broadband, for our patented TPC technology."

Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (www.comtechtel.com) is an innovative player in domestic and global high-technology markets. Through its operating units, Comtech pursues opportunities in three interrelated market segments: telecommunications transmission, RF microwave amplifiers, and mobile data communications services. In each of these segments, growth has been driven by the increasing demand for telecommunications infrastructure and network and messaging services.
