Comtech Telecommunications Corp. Awarded $1.6 Million Order for Satellite Modems for an Asia-Pacific Cellular Operator

MELVILLE, N.Y., Jan 14, 2010 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX News Network) -- Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq:CMTL) announced today that its Tempe, Arizona-based subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp., was awarded a $1.6 million order for satellite modems and redundancy switches. A large operator in the Asia-Pacific region will use the equipment to upgrade their existing satellite-based cellular backhaul infrastructure to increase their available bandwidth.

The order includes the CDM-625 Advanced Satellite Modem and redundancy switches. Operators worldwide utilize the CDM-625's advanced features to support cellular backhaul and other latency-sensitive applications. Examples of the CDM-625's advanced technologies are VersaFEC® forward error correction, Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM) and DoubleTalk® Carrier-in-Carrier® bandwidth compression. The combination of technologies enables users to minimize operating expenses, maximize throughput and availability without additional transponder resources, and minimize capital expenses by allowing a smaller BUC/HPA and/or antenna.

Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp. commented on the order, "This operator is currently challenged with needing more bandwidth than is available. By leveraging the efficiencies of the CDM-625, we enable our customer to increase throughput without requiring additional satellite bandwidth resources."
