Comtech Telecommunications Corp. Announces Formation of New Subsidiary Melville, New York - October 20, 1998 - Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq: CMTL) announced today the formation of Comtech Mobile Datacom Corp. (CMDC) through the purchase of the assets of Mobile Datacom Corp. located in Germantown, Maryland. CMDC will provide satellite-based packet data communication services between remote mobile and fixed assets and home base using an open architecture asset tracking system. Open architecture provides the user with the flexibility to use a variety of satellite relay or terrestrial wireless networks. CMDC will focus on transportation and energy markets, both commercial and government and will serve customers in the U.S. and elsewhere as satellite resources which offer global reach are deployed over the next few years.

The new subsidiary will be headed by Mr. Joel Alper, as President, who is a veteran of the satellite communications field and a former senior executive with COMSAT Corp. At COMSAT, Mr. Alper headed its international communications division and its systems integration division at various times over an eighteen year period, leaving in 1993 to form MDC.

Fred Kornberg, President and CEO of Comtech indicated "the new subsidiary extends Comtech's product line into earth station data processing equipment for mobile data communications, and moves it into the emerging market for satellite packet data services. The applications, including position reporting, messaging, inventory/asset in-route management, remote meter reading and others, are universal in their ability to generate high value to the user".
