(Nasdaq: CMTL) announced today that its Maryland subsidiary, Comtech Mobile Datacom Corp. received $3.5 million in new orders for equipment and services to be used in the U.S. Army's Movement Tracking System (MTS) program.

This is the second large order received by Comtech under an eight-year contract that has a potential total value of $418 million.

The new order covers delivery of satellite tracking and messaging equipment and installation hardware for approximately 400 additional Army logistics vehicles and mobile control stations, and it also includes the associated satellite-based communications services. Delivery of units is to begin in June. Previous orders under the contract have involved delivery and installation of approximately 500 systems.

Col. Stephen Broughall, the Army's Project Manager for the MTS program, indicated that the system was beginning to make its capabilities felt in the fulfillment of the logistics' commands mission. "We have just completed two major and very successful training exercises, one involving the 4th Infantry Division at the National Training Center in Ft. Irwin, California, the other involving the Interim Brigade Combat Team at Ft. Lewis, Washington. In both exercises, the MTS enabled field commanders to maintain continuous contact with their units in the field, and to respond in real time to the challenges that are a part of the logistician's everyday experience. This system is meeting our expectations and proving its worth, " Col. Broughall said.

Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications, said "The Company's MTS tracking and messaging system offers the Army an easy-to-use system designed for long distance messaging with tracking of critical assets. The success of MTS in its first operational exercises should encourage the Army to accelerate its fielding of this transformation enabling system which will contribute to the achievement of the Army's Objective Force goal."
