Comtech Receives $18.3 Million in New Orders for U.S. Army's Movement Tracking System

MELVILLE, N.Y., Jan 28, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq: CMTL) announced today that since mid December, 2002 it has received $18.3 million in new orders for equipment and services relating to the Movement Tracking System (MTS) that it is supplying to the U.S. Army.

This brings the total MTS orders received to date to approximately $57 million.

The orders were awarded to the company's Maryland-based Comtech Mobile Datacom subsidiary pursuant to an eight-year $418 million contract with the Army's Logistics Command. This brings the number of MTS units ordered to date to over 5,600. The MTS program provides the Logistics Command with the technology necessary to track and communicate in real time with its mobile assets.

Colonel Stephen Broughall, the U.S. Army's Project Manager for Logistics Information Systems, said, "The MTS program has demonstrated its effectiveness as an enabler in the transformation of the Army's logistics operations though numerous exercises here in the Continental United States. Now it's show time, and we're confident that MTS will further demonstrate its merit as the Army deploys it to meet demanding global contingencies."

Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp., said, "These recent orders are further evidence of the Army's commitment to the MTS program. These orders combined with opportunities within the Army's battle commands will result in a banner year for our Mobile Data Communications Services segment."
