Comtech Receives $1,500,000 Contract for South African Communications Network MELVILLE, N.Y. - June 12, 2000 - Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq: CMTL) announced today that its Arizona subsidiary, Comtech Communications Corporation has been awarded a 2 year exclusive supply contract valued at more than $1.5 million with Telkom South Africa Limited to supply high performance C and Ku band frequency converters.

The award follows extensive testing of the Comtech converters by Telkom South Africa, which will use them to update South Africa's satellite communications network. The contract called for the immediate delivery of more than $400,000 worth of product.

Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications, said the Comtech frequency converters were chosen for this project due to their superior performance, and full compliance with Telkom South Africa's strict new quality standards.

The converters include Comtech's newly patented synthesizer technology, which combines the performance advantages of analog phase lock loops with the inherent reliability and long life of digital phase lock loops. The converters also include Comtech's patented "daisy chain" distributed protection system for ease of installation and ease of future network expansion. When fully configured, each network site will contain up to 13 converters in a 1:12 redundancy system.

The Arizona-based Comtech Communications unit also produces the innovative CDM-550T Turbo Codec satellite modem, which offers data rates up to 2.048 Mbps and complete equipment solutions for data and voice delivery over Very Small Aperture Terminals (VSATs).
