Melville, New York --- December 9, 1997 --- COMTECH TELECOMMUNICATIONS CORP. (NASDAQ/NMS: CMTL) today reported that for the first quarter ended October 31, 1997, the Company had a net profit of $104,000, or $.04 per share, on sales of $5,934,000. For the same quarter of last year, the Company had a net profit of $81,000, or $.03 per share, on sales of $5,188,000.
The Company's increased sales and operating income over the corresponding quarter in fiscal 1997, reflecting the benefits flowing from Comtech's continuing transition to a product oriented business, were primarily driven by our Comtech PST operating unit partially offset by results at our Comtech Systems operating unit.
Backlog at October 31, 1997 was $14,873,000 as compared to $10,868,000 a year before and $14,724,000 at July 31, 1997.
