Comtech Telecommunications Corp. Receives $5.7 Million Order to Upgrade Cellular Backhaul Infrastructure

MELVILLE, N.Y., May 04, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (NASDAQ: CMTL) announced today that its Montreal, Canada-based operation, Memotec, Inc., received a $5.7 million order to provide communications equipment and services to a major mobile telecommunications service provider in Africa. The equipment will be used to expand an existing cellular network infrastructure and provide reduced transmission costs for interconnecting the network through satellite communication links.

The equipment consists of Memotec's flagship voice and data compression product, the CX2000, and Comtech EF Data's CDM-600 Satellite Modem. The CX2000 provides an industry leading 14:1 data compression for GSM cellular traffic. Combined with the bandwidth-efficient forward error correction and modulation techniques of the CDM-600 Satellite Modem, the system provides customers with superior savings on satellite transmission costs for cellular backhaul.
